Matt Daly in Yellowstone

Poet Matt Daly will work with 6th graders on their Yellowstone trip. Students will review and discuss poetry of place. Students will explore: Sensory Description (Details that make your experience of place unique), Rhythms of Place (Weather, Animals, People), Voice (How people sound), Subject Matter (What do we talk about in this place?).

Wednesday, May 14th: Through an evening crespuscular hike, students will journal with sensory description, rhythms of place, voice, and subject matter in mind.

Thursday, May 15th (Old Faithful): Students will use journaling and notes and knowledge on poetic form (from previous workshop with Mr. Daly) to begin to develop place-based poetry.

MISSION:
PALS (Promoting Arts in Lander Schools) is a volunteer organization that brings the arts—including theater, music, literature, visual arts, dance, and opera—to Lander schools.

HISTORY:
PALS began in 1999, when it brought Missoula Children's Theater to students in grades K-8. Since that time, it has grown to include a variety of partnerships and programs.

PALS' goals are to expose as many students as possible to the arts, both visual and performing, and to give them a variety of experiences—from appreciation to participation. Some programs provide an overview of an art form, while others offer an in-depth experience.

WE ARE HONORED!
PALS (Promoting Arts in Lander Schools) has been named a 2011 Governor's Arts Award recipient! Over 25 PALS folks traveled to Cheyenne to accept the award at a gala celebration on February 24, 2012.

Arts in Education

Research and News

NBC news featured an inner-city Boston school that eliminated its high-security features and reinvested the money into developing an intensive arts program. Click here to watch the 2-minute clip.

The school is part of the Turnaround Arts Initiative, a public/private partnership with the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the US Department of Ed, private funders, and eight of the country's worst performing schools.  Amazing.
